Marion Station Man Cited for Using Commercial Crab Gear

Somerset County, MD - On July 31, 2026, Maryland Natural Resources Police officers were on routine patrol of the Big Annemessex River in Somerset County, Maryland.

They stopped a boat that was harvesting crabs with a crab scrape to check its gear.

The boat's operator was a 74-year-old man from Marion Station, Maryland. Officers found he was using commercial crabbing gear without holding a commercial license.

The man told officers he only had a recreational license. That license does not allow crabs to be harvested using commercial gear.

He was issued one citation for failing to obtain a tidal fish license for commercial activity. The charge carries a maximum fine of $1,000.
