Ocean City, MD - Ocean City has a new mayor. Matt James took the oath of office on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the Mayor and Council Organizational Meeting, which kicked off a new term for the town's elected leaders.

Before anyone was sworn in, the meeting opened with a send-off for Mayor Rick Meehan. Meehan has given 41 years of service to the Town of Ocean City, and the farewell remarks honored that long run.

During his time as mayor, Meehan helped lead and guide the community. He also played a part in shaping the town and where it's headed.

Once the farewell remarks wrapped up, James was officially sworn in as mayor. Three council members also took their oath at the same meeting.

Billy Apostolou and Larry Noccolino are both newly elected to the council. Carol Proctor, who already held a council seat, was sworn in again as an incumbent.

The council also picked its leaders for the new term. Proctor was elected Council President, and Council Member Jake Mitrecic was elected Council Secretary.

In a statement released on November 6, 2026, the town congratulated Mayor James, Council President Proctor, Council Secretary Mitrecic, and the newly elected council members as they started their service.

The town also thanked Meehan for his years of service, leadership, and commitment to Ocean City. It said his time as mayor has come to a close, but his record of service will remain part of the town's history.

Town leaders wished Meehan the best in his next chapter. They also thanked him for the many hours and years he gave to the community he served.

We would also like to congratulate Mayor James and the members of the Ocean City Town Council as they begin their new term, and thank former Mayor Meehan for his 41 years of service to Ocean City.
