State of DE - On October 27, 2026, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the Delaware State Police (DSP) School Resource Officer (SRO) at Middletown High School, 120 Silver Lake Road, Middletown, DE, stopped a student who was believed to be carrying a weapon. A loaded handgun was found in his bag, and the 15-year-old is now facing several felony charges.

The case started the day before. It was reported that on October 26, 2026, the student showed a knife he was carrying in a crossbody bag and made threatening statements.

A concerned parent let the school know what happened. The school started looking into it right away.

The SRO was told about the incident on the morning of October 27. When staff went to find the student, they learned he hadn't gotten to school yet.

He showed up at about 10:40 a.m. The SRO and school staff spotted him and walked over to him right away. They took him into an empty classroom close by. Once inside, he wouldn't hand over his bookbag or the crossbody bag he had on.

The student started to resist, and a struggle broke out. The SRO and staff were finally able to take both bags from him.

When they checked the crossbody bag, they found a loaded 9mm handgun. A 4-inch knife was inside the bag too.

The student was taken to DSP Troop 9, where he was charged. He was then arraigned by the New Castle County Family Court. He was sent to a juvenile detention center. His bond was set at $70,100 cash.

The student faces five felony charges. They are Possession of a Firearm by Person Under 21, Possession of Ammunition by Person Under 21, and Possession of a Firearm in a Safe School Zone.

The other two felonies are Possession of a Deadly Weapon Other than a Firearm by a Person Under 18 and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony. He's also charged with Possession of a Weapon in a Safe Recreation Zone and Resisting Arrest.
