Sussex County, DE - On October 23, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Delaware State Police responded to Long Neck Road, south of Pot Nets Road, for a two-vehicle head-on crash.

A 72-year-old woman from Millsboro, Delaware, was badly hurt in the crash and was flown to an area hospital. Two days later, on October 25, 2026, she died from her injuries.

Troopers say the woman was driving a Hyundai Tucson south on Long Neck Road. The SUV was traveling in the northbound lane, and its headlights weren't on.

At the same time, a Jeep Compass was heading north on that same stretch of road. Investigators found the Jeep's driver tried to steer clear of the Hyundai, but the two vehicles still hit head-on.

The Jeep was driven by a 53-year-old man, who is also from Millsboro. He was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Long Neck Road was shut down for a long time that Friday night. It stayed closed while troopers looked into the crash and crews cleared the scene.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is still investigating. This unit looks closely at crash scenes to work out exactly what happened.

Troopers want to hear from anyone who saw the crash or has video connected to it. That could include dash camera or home security video from the area around 7:00 p.m. that night.
