Worcester County, MD - Worcester County is adding a new outdoor amenity, and the public is invited to help celebrate.

The Worcester County Commissioners and Worcester County Recreation & Parks are hosting a ribbon cutting for a brand new walking trail at John Walter Smith Park in Snow Hill. The event is set for Tuesday, June 16, at 1 p.m. The park is located at 6040 Public Landing Road.

The new trail stretches approximately 1.2 miles and follows the perimeter of the park. It was built for walking, jogging, and other recreational activities. Whether you're looking for a casual stroll or a regular fitness route, this trail has something to offer.

The surface is made from stone dust and constructed with permeable materials, making it both environmentally friendly and accessible to a variety of users. Six benches made from recycled materials are placed along the route, giving visitors a place to rest and take in the park's natural surroundings.

Recreation & Parks Director Kelly Rados spoke to what the trail means for the county.

"This trail represents an investment in recreation, wellness, and quality of life for Worcester County residents," Rados said. "We are grateful to the many partners who helped make this project possible and look forward to celebrating this new amenity with the community."

The project was funded through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources' Greenspace Equity Program and Program Open Space, with additional support from the Worcester County Commissioners. Engineering was handled by J. Stacey Hart & Associates, Inc., and construction was completed by Marshalls Professional Property Management LLC.

John Walter Smith Park is a well-known green space in Snow Hill, and this new trail is a welcome addition for residents looking for more ways to enjoy the outdoors close to home.

If you're in the area on June 16, stop by at 1 p.m. and be part of the ribbon cutting. It's a free, family-friendly event open to everyone.
