Newark Woman Arrested on Felony Charges Following Stolen Vehicle Recovery and Trooper Assault
State of DE - On April 8, 2026, at approximately 6:15 p.m., troopers responded to the Christiana Mall, located at 350 Christiana Mall in Newark, Delaware, for a report of a stolen vehicle.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Camry was stolen. The vehicle was later tracked to a residence on the unit block of Jamison Street in Newark, DE.
Troopers responded to the location and found the stolen vehicle. While at the scene, investigators observed a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Rebecca Weatherly of Newark, enter the vehicle. She was seen removing personal property from inside the car.
Troopers approached Weatherly to take her into custody. She resisted arrest and struck a trooper. This resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to the officer.
Weatherly was subsequently taken into custody. A search of her person revealed the keys to the stolen Toyota.
Weatherly was transported to Troop 6 for processing. She was charged with Second-Degree Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, Receiving Stolen Property Valued Over $1,500, and Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence.
All charges are felonies. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution on a $3,500 cash bond.
