OC Woman Charged in Fatal Delaware Hit-and-Run Bike Crash
Millville, DE - A woman from Ocean City, Maryland, is facing serious charges after a deadly hit-and-run crash in Millville, Delaware, left a bicycle rider dead.
Delaware State Police arrested 46-year-old Kara Gilmore following the crash, which happened Tuesday evening, June 9, 2026, at around 9:05 p.m. on Atlantic Avenue east of Whites Neck Road.
According to investigators, a Subaru Forester traveling eastbound drifted out of its lane and into the bike lane, striking 52-year-old Duane Pershing, of Ocean View, Delaware, who was riding his bicycle. After the crash, the driver left the scene without stopping.
Ocean View Police Department located the disabled Subaru a short time later in the parking lot of Artisan's Bank on Atlantic Avenue. When Delaware State Police troopers made contact with Gilmore at the scene, she showed multiple signs of impairment. Following Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, she was placed under arrest for DUI.
Pershing was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, he died from those injuries on June 10, 2026.
Gilmore was taken to Troop 4, charged, and arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 3. She was released on a $3,404 unsecured bond.
Her initial charges included:
- Vehicular Assault 1st Degree (Felony)
- Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Injury
- Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
- Related Traffic Offenses
On June 11, 2026, troopers obtained an additional warrant for Gilmore and took her into custody in Maryland. Once extradited to Delaware, she will face felony charges of Vehicular Homicide 2nd Degree and Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death.
