Ocean City Commits $250K to Diakonia's New Campus

Worcester County, MD - The Town of Ocean City is investing $250,000 in Diakonia's Supportive Living Campus Capital Campaign. The funding will help expand services for individuals and families across Ocean City and the Lower Eastern Shore.

Diakonia has served the Ocean City area for more than 50 years. The Town has backed the organization with annual operating grants throughout that time.

This new investment marks a bigger step in that partnership. It will help fund housing stability, food security, Veteran services, and homelessness prevention.

Mayor Rick Meehan spoke about the decision. "Diakonia has been an important community partner for more than 50 years, providing resources and support to those who need it most," he said. "The Town of Ocean City is proud to support the Supportive Living Campus and invest in a project that will strengthen essential services and make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families throughout our community."

In 2025, Diakonia gave intensive housing stabilization and case management services to 1,175 individuals. The group also helped people find housing, provided food assistance, connected Veterans with services, and offered safe emergency housing for men, women, and families.

The new Supportive Living Campus will bring these services together in one location. Town officials say this will make it easier for people to access help and will let Diakonia respond to the community's growing needs.

The partnership between Ocean City and Diakonia goes back decades.

Town leaders say this investment reflects their continued commitment to supporting residents and strengthening the community.
