Paving Work Sparks Rock Hall Townhouse Fire
Kent County, MD - On October 6, 2026, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company responded to 20561 Rock Hall Ave, Unit 6, Rock Hall, MD for a fire at a multi-story townhouse.
An asphalt company doing paving work near the home found the fire. Investigators say it started on the outside wall of the garage.
About 50 firefighters worked the one-alarm fire. Crews had it under control in 55 minutes.
No one was hurt but two people have been displaced from their home.
The townhouse had smoke alarms, and they went off during the fire.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal says the fire was an accident. Officials believe it was caused by the paving work happening close to the building.
The fire did about $100,000 in damage to the building. Another $50,000 in damage was done to the items inside.
