Quantico, MD - The Eastern Shore Running Club is getting ready for its third annual Pirate's Wharf 5K. The race will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Pirate's Wharf Park, 4701 Whitehaven Road, Quantico, MD.

Runners and walkers will start at 9 a.m. The route follows the crushed stone paths inside the park.

This year's course looks a little different. Because of construction at the park, the race will be run as a three-loop course.

The fun keeps going after the race. DJ T-Dome will be playing music, and Playa Bowls will be giving out free açaí bowls.

Awards will go to the top finishers overall and in each age group. The club added more age groups for children this year, and there will also be several door prizes.

Money raised from the race will go to two places. Part will support the Eastern Shore Running Club general fund, and part will go to the Eastern Shore Running Club Scholarship Fund.

The club has given its scholarship to two local high school graduating seniors every year since 2019. Each runner who signs up helps keep that going.

Online registration costs $35 for ages 20 and up and $25 for ages 19 and under, plus a processing fee. You can sign up at www.esrclub.org/pirates-wharf-5k until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

If you miss the online deadline, you can still sign up on race morning. On-site registration runs from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and costs $40 for ages 20 and up or $30 for ages 19 and under. Packet pickup for registered runners happens at the same time.

"We're excited to continue this tradition for a third year and are glad we found a way to work with the construction at the park," said Vanessa Junkin, president of the Eastern Shore Running Club. "Come on out and run or walk to support the next generation of runners through our scholarship fund, as well as our club."

The race has four Jolly Roger sponsors this year. They are Davis, Bowen And Friedel, Inc., Playa Bowls, Vernon Powell Shoes, and Veronica James - REALTOR, ERA Martin Associates. You can find the rest of the sponsors at esrclub.org.

Just a heads up for race day, dogs and strollers are not allowed on the race course.

The Eastern Shore Running Club is a nonprofit based in Salisbury, MD, and is part of the Road Runners Club of America. The club was started to promote and advocate for the running community on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
