National News - President Donald Trump has named Katie Zacharia as the new White House Press Secretary. She will take over the role from Karoline Leavitt.
The President shared the news on Friday, October 9, 2026, in a post on Truth Social. Zacharia answered with a post of her own, thanking him for the chance to serve.
Zacharia currently works as Senior Communications Advisor to Truth Social, which is part of Trump Media & Technology Group. In his post, Trump said she "has been outstanding!" in that job.
She is originally from California. She once served as Spokesperson and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security.
Zacharia is a graduate of Pepperdine University and the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law. She is an attorney and has often appeared as a commentator on outlets such as Fox News and Newsmax.
According to Trump, she also helped with his past campaigns in key swing states. He wrote that she "has been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning."
Trump said he believes she will do well in her new role. "I am confident that Katie will deliver strong results for our Country as the next White House Press Secretary, as she has the respect of, and will work fantastically with, the Media, the American People, and my Administration," he wrote.
He also had praise for Leavitt in the same post. "Katie is replacing the fabulous Karoline Leavitt, who did a fantastic job as Press Secretary," Trump wrote.
In her response, Zacharia thanked the President "for the distinguished privilege of serving as White House Press Secretary." She called the job "the honor of a lifetime" as the country reaches its 250-year mark.
She said her focus will be on sharing the work of the administration with the public. "I look forward to working with the White House press corps, and with reporters across the country, to get that record out," she wrote.
Zacharia also had kind words for the person she is replacing. "Following the fabulous Karoline Leavitt is a high standard, and one worth meeting," she wrote.
The White House Press Secretary serves as the main voice of the administration. The job includes leading press briefings and answering questions from reporters on behalf of the President.
