Rideshare Driver Charged With Rape and Kidnapping

State of MD - A rideshare driver is facing serious charges after Montgomery County Police say he raped a teenage passenger.

Abdoulaye Dia, of Lanham, Maryland, is charged with first degree rape, kidnapping, second degree assault and third degree sex offense.

The case started on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Montgomery County Police officers were dispatched to an area hospital for a report of a rape that had happened earlier that day.

Officers spoke with the victim, a teenage girl under the age of 18. She told police she had been raped by a driver working for the rideshare company Empower.

The victim said Dia drove her to a parking lot in Silver Spring, Maryland. She told officers the assault happened there.

Detectives with the Special Victims Investigations Division used information from the rideshare app to identify Dia as the driver. The investigation moved quickly from there.

On Wednesday, September 16, the Montgomery County Police Repeat Offenders Unit arrested Dia in Lanham, Maryland. He is now being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
