Salisbury Bridges Get $5.2 Million in Repairs

Salisbury, MD - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has finished a $5.2 million repair project on two bridges in Salisbury.

The work covered the US 50 Business bridge, known as Salisbury Parkway, and the MD 991 bridge on Main Street, both of which cross the Wicomico River.

Construction began in July. Crews worked on both bridge structures to repair and replace dolphin pile clusters and fenders, and to apply epoxy sealing to the undersides of the bridges.

The project included several types of underwater and structural work. Crews installed new concrete filled pipe pile dolphins and new vertical timber fender boards, and placed new wire bands around the existing timber dolphins.

Workers also completed underwater epoxy crack injection repairs to the abutment walls. They rehabilitated the underwater concrete abutments and repaired portions of the abutment walls that had become undermined.

Specialty Underwater Services LLC of Baltimore, based out of Baltimore, served as the contractor on the project. The company handled the repairs to both the US 50 Business and MD 991 bridge structures.

The State Highway Administration said the upgrades will help maintain and improve the bridges for years to come. The agency thanked drivers for their patience while the work was underway.

Officials are reminding drivers to stay alert and focused while driving through work zones. They are asking motorists to watch for reduced speed limits and changing driving patterns in those areas.
