Salisbury to Celebrate New Fitness Trail at Lake Street Park
Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury is inviting the community to celebrate a new fitness trail and outdoor workout area at Lake Street Park. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, September 15, at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Kona Ice will be on-site handing out snow cones for anyone who attends.
The ceremony marks the official opening of the new trail and fitness stations. The project expands free recreational and wellness options for residents across Salisbury.
The trail was funded through federal Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus, or CDBG-CV, funds. It loops around the perimeter of the park and spans about one-third of a mile. The path winds through both sunny and shaded areas to keep the walk comfortable.
Eight outdoor fitness stations are placed along the route, along with several benches. The stations and benches are spread throughout the trail to support exercise, movement, and everyday outdoor activity. The layout is designed to give visitors a welcoming and easy walking experience.
Mayor Randy Taylor spoke about what the project means for the community. "This project is an investment in the health, wellness, and quality of life of this neighborhood and our community as a whole. We are proud to continue investing in projects that strengthen our neighborhoods and expand recreational opportunities throughout Salisbury."
Salisbury City Council President April R. Jackson, who represents District 1, also shared her thoughts on the new trail. "The Walking and Fitness Trail at Lake Street Playground is more than a place to exercise, it is an accessible and convenient pathway to healthier living, stronger connections, and a more active community. Located in the heart of the Westside, this trail provides residents of all ages with a welcoming space to walk, exercise, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time together. It is an investment not only in the Westside community, but in the health, wellness, and quality of life for the entire City of Salisbury."
Community members of all ages are encouraged to come out for the celebration. Visitors can walk the new trail, try out the fitness stations, and take part in the festivities. It is a chance for neighbors to see the finished project firsthand and enjoy some free snow cones along the way.
The completed project adds another accessible outdoor fitness option to Salisbury's growing list of parks and public spaces. It gives residents one more place to stay active, spend time with others, and enjoy the outdoors.
The Lake Street Park Fitness Trail is part of the City's ongoing effort to expand public amenities. Salisbury continues to invest in improving park spaces and creating recreational resources throughout the community.
This project adds to that momentum, giving the Westside neighborhood and the wider city a new place to move, gather, and get outside.
