Seaford Traffic Stop Leads to Handgun Arrest

Seaford, DE - A routine traffic stop in Seaford turned into a weapons arrest earlier this month, according to the Seaford Police Department. The incident happened on August 2, 2026, at approximately 8:48 a.m.

An officer was on routine patrol when they ran a license plate that came back to someone wanted out of the Justice of the Peace Court. The officer stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Shemar Deputy. Deputy was wanted on an active capias, which is a court order for someone's arrest.

Deputy was taken into custody without incident. During the stop, he told the officer he had a handgun concealed under the front passenger seat. He also said he did not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Officers located and seized the handgun as evidence. Deputy was charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, a Felony D offense in Delaware.

He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court. Deputy was released after posting $2,500 unsecured bail.
