Shed Fire Spreads to Hurlock Home, Displaces 6

Dorchester County, MD - On September 19, 2026, at approximately 3:20 p.m., the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 300 block of Commerce Street in Hurlock, Maryland for a shed fire. The fire started inside a 30 by 15 foot shed on the property.

The fire spread from the shed into the home before firefighters arrived. A passerby noticed the flames and called it in.

Crews called for a second alarm to help fight the fire. About 40 firefighters responded to the scene.

It took roughly 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Investigators say the fire started inside the shed, but the exact cause is still under investigation. Investigators do not suspect foul play.

Six people were displaced from the home because of the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting the family with housing and other immediate needs.

Damage is estimated at $60,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents inside.
