Skydiving Accident at Ridgely Airport Injures Two
Caroline County, MD - Two people were injured Monday afternoon after a skydiving accident at Ridgely Airport in Caroline County, Maryland.
The Caroline County Sheriff's Office responded to the airport at 24030 Race Track Road on June 1, 2026. Deputies arrived to find two people hurt following a tandem skydiving operation that went wrong during the descent.
According to investigators, a sudden and unexpected gust of wind hit during the jump. The wind shift forced both skydivers downward at a steep angle, leading to a hard impact with the ground.
One of the victims suffered severe but non life threatening injuries. She was airlifted by Maryland State Police Aviation Command, Trooper 6, to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for advanced medical care.
The second victim sustained significant leg injuries. He was transported by Caroline County Paramedic 13 to University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, Maryland for treatment.
Several agencies assisted at the scene. The Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department, Caroline County Department of Emergency Services, Maryland State Police Aviation Command, and Maryland State Police from the Easton Barrack all responded and helped coordinate care for both victims.
The Caroline County Sheriff's Office thanked the responding agencies for their quick and coordinated response. At this time, the incident appears to be weather related and no foul play is suspected.
