Snow Hill, MD - Snow Hill will soon have a new leader at its police department. Chief Andy McGee has resigned from the town to become the police chief in Pocomoke City.

Snow Hill Mayor Janet Simpson announced the change. Detective Sergeant Rudell Brown will serve as Interim Chief until the town hires a permanent chief.

The town is now taking applications for the chief of police job. The opening has been posted online and shared through several police recruiting sources.

McGee has led the Snow Hill Police Department since June 2019. According to the town, Snow Hill has been recognized during that time as a model for community policing and for keeping crime low.

The town also says McGee oversaw a planned upgrade of the department. That work brought new methods and new technology. The department also moved into a new police station last year.

Brown has 37 years of police experience. He has worked for the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department and the Pocomoke City Police Department. He has spent the last five years with the Snow Hill Police Department.

The town describes Brown as a calm and professional officer who is well respected by his coworkers and the community. According to the town, his strengths include frontline policing, criminal investigations and road patrol.

Mayor Simpson shared her thoughts on the change in leadership. "While we are sad to see Chief McGee leave Snow Hill, we are incredibly grateful for his dedicated service and leadership. We have complete confidence in Detective Sergeant Rudell Brown as he steps into the role of Interim Chief. His deep knowledge of our community and proven track record within the department ensure that Snow Hill remains in excellent hands during this transition."

Brown will be sworn in as Interim Chief at Tuesday's regular Mayor and Council meeting. The meeting will take place in the board room of the Worcester County Commissioners.

After Brown takes the oath, McGee will formally pass the Chief's Badge to him.
