Somerset County Lifts Outdoor Burning Ban
Somerset County, MD - Somerset County has lifted its ban on outdoor burning. The announcement came from County Commissioner President Charles Laird on June 24, 2026.
The decision followed advice from the Somerset County Fire Chiefs. Officials had put the burning moratorium in place due to the dry conditions.
Even though the ban is lifted, officials are urging caution. The release states, "It is strongly recommended that extreme caution is used if choosing to burn outdoors."
Residents who plan to burn outdoors should keep a close eye on weather conditions. Windy or dry days can make outdoor fires harder to control.
It's always smart to have water or a way to put out a fire nearby. Never leave an outdoor fire unattended, even for a few minutes.
