State Police Investigate Inmate Death at Hagerstown Prison

State of MD - On Monday, September 21, at approximately 10 p.m., the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was contacted about an inmate death at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown.

The call came from investigators with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit.

Early findings show the inmate was found with apparent stab wounds. He was found on the tier inside his housing unit.

Emergency medical services personnel at the facility declared the man deceased. He was a state prison inmate serving time at the Hagerstown facility.

His name has not been released yet. Police are withholding it until his next of kin can be notified.

Investigators from the State Police Homicide Unit went to the prison after the call. Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division also responded to process the scene for evidence.

At this time, no information has been released about a possible suspect. Police have also not shared details about what may have led up to the incident.

The Maryland Correctional Training Center is a state prison run by the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. State police are now handling the death investigation.
