Straw Bale Fire Burns in Westover

Somerset County, MD - Fire crews responded to a large straw bale fire Tuesday evening in Westover, Maryland.

The fire was reported in the 6400 block of George Riggins Road in Somerset County, Maryland.

The call came in around 8:25 p.m. on July 7, 2026. A passerby noticed the fire and alerted authorities.

About 700 straw bales were involved in the fire. Marion Volunteer Fire Department led the response.

Crews had the fire under control within 45 minutes. In total, 30 firefighters responded to the single-alarm call.
