Talbot County Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests
Talbot County, MD - Talbot County Sheriff's deputies arrested two people after a routine traffic stop turned up controlled dangerous substances (CDS) and paraphernalia in their vehicle.
The stop happened on June 15, 2026, on Ocean Gateway near Old Wye Mills Road. Deputies pulled the car over for a registration violation.
During the stop, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle. That search led to the discovery of controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia inside.
The driver was identified as 31-year-old Kayla Nicole Nichols (no photo available). The passenger, who also owns the vehicle, was identified as 53-year-old Timothy Cofiell (photo provided). Both are from Catonsville, Maryland.
Deputies placed Nichols and Cofiell under arrest at the scene. Both face charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
Following their arrests, the pair were transported to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing. They each had an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
