Teen Barricades in Pittsville Home, Surrenders After 3-Hour Standoff
Wicomico County, MD - A tense situation unfolded in Pittsville Wednesday morning when a 16-year-old allegedly assaulted family members and then locked himself inside a bedroom with what witnesses said was a firearm.
Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office responded to the 6000 block of Morris Road at about 9:37 a.m. on June 3, 2026.
When they arrived, they learned the teen had allegedly attacked people inside the home before barricading himself in a bedroom. He was reported to have a gun.
Because of the potential danger, officials called in additional resources. The Sheriff's Office Hostage Negotiation Team and Sheriff's Emergency Response Team responded, along with the Salisbury Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics team. A secure perimeter was set up around the home.
For about three hours, negotiators worked to talk the teen out peacefully. Their efforts paid off. The juvenile surrendered and was taken into custody without any incident.
After the situation was resolved, detectives executed a Search and Seizure Warrant on the home. No firearms were found inside.
The investigation is still active and ongoing. Charges are pending the outcome of that investigation.
