Traffic Stop on Cordova Road Leads to Drug Arrest

Talbot County, MD - A traffic stop in Talbot County led to a drug arrest this week. On September 22, 2026, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle on Cordova Road near Tall Oaks Road. The stop was made because of a registration violation.

Deputies identified the driver as 49-year-old Billy Joe Johnson of Greensboro, Maryland. While speaking with Johnson, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle.

That search led to the discovery of a controlled substance inside the vehicle. Deputies also found related paraphernalia during the search. Johnson was placed under arrest at the scene.

Johnson was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. Both charges are tied directly to what deputies found during the search. He was taken into custody without further incident.

After his arrest, Johnson was transported to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing. He had an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner, which is standard procedure after an arrest like this. Johnson was held pending further action by the courts.

Cordova Road sits in a quieter, rural stretch of Talbot County. Traffic stops for smaller issues like a registration violation happen often in areas like this. Sometimes, as in this case, a routine stop uncovers something much bigger.
