Trappe House Fire Displaces Family of Four
Talbot County, MD - A house fire Wednesday morning left a Talbot County family without a home and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage.
The fire broke out around 10:44 a.m. at a single-family home on Backtown Road in Trappe. A passerby or occupant spotted the fire and called it in.
Firefighters from the Trappe Volunteer Fire Company responded along with mutual aid. In all, 43 firefighters worked the scene and had the fire under control within an hour.
Investigators determined the fire started on the rear exterior porch. The preliminary cause is accidental discarded ashes from a burn barrel are believed to have ignited the blaze.
The one-story wood-framed home had working smoke alarms, which activated during the fire. There were no sprinklers.
Four people were displaced. The structure and its contents suffered an estimated $250,000 in damage.
