Truck Catches Fire in Rhodesdale Field, Dorchester County
Dorchester County, MD - A pickup truck caught fire Sunday afternoon in a field on the 4900 block of Maiden Forest Road in Rhodesdale, Maryland according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
The incident was reported at 5:59 PM on May 10, 2026. The vehicle involved was a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The driver of the F-150 was operating the truck in a field containing tall, dry vegetation when he noticed something was wrong. He observed smoke coming from the engine compartment and stopped to investigate. When he found a small fire under the hood, he immediately called 9-1-1.
Firefighters from the Vienna Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene. A total of 15 firefighters worked to bring the fire under control. They were able to contain it within 20 minutes of arriving.
Investigators determined the fire started in the engine compartment. The preliminary cause was ruled accidental. Dry vegetation from the field came into contact with hot engine and exhaust components, which ignited the blaze.
The truck sustained an estimated $6,000 in damage as a result of the fire.
