Kent County, MD - On September 29, 2026, the Kent County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on Chesterville Road in Galena, MD. Two people from Earleville now face drug charges after a K9 search of the vehicle.

Sgt. Lockerman pulled the vehicle over for a traffic violation.

While talking with the people in the vehicle, Sgt. Lockerman noticed signs that pointed to possible criminal activity. A trained canine then, Khari, scanned the vehicle. Khari gave a positive alert. This means the dog picked up the scent of something he or she is trained to find.

That alert gave the sergeant probable cause to search the vehicle. Probable cause is a legal standard under the Fourth Amendment that gives law enforcement the right to make an arrest, conduct a search, or get a warrant.

The search turned up a suspected controlled dangerous substance, often called CDS.

The sheriff's office said the suspected drug was not cannabis, also known as marijuana. It did not say what type of drug it was.

Suspected drug paraphernalia was also found in the vehicle. Paraphernalia means items used to take, store, or prepare drugs.

Jentina Marie Roark, 34, and Samuel Turner Roark, 32, both of Earleville, MD, were each charged with possession of CDS, not cannabis. They were also each charged with possession of paraphernalia.

Both were released after being given criminal citations. A criminal citation is a written charge that lets a person go instead of being held in jail.
