For the second-degree murder charge, the court gave Davis 40 years in prison. Twenty of those years were suspended.

For the abuse of a vulnerable adult charge, Davis received 10 years in prison. Five of those years were suspended.

A suspended sentence is time a judge sets aside. In most cases, that time is not served unless the person breaks the conditions set by the court.

The two sentences will be served at the same time, not one after the other. Davis will serve his time in the Maryland Department of Corrections.

Sheriff Baker said no sentence can undo the loss of the victim. The Sheriff also said they hope this outcome brings his family some justice and closure.

The Caroline County Sheriff's Office thanked the investigators, deputies, prosecutors, and partner agencies who worked on the case. The office said their work helped lead to the investigation and prosecution.
