US 113 Crossovers in Berlin to Close Friday Nights
Worcester County, MD - Drivers who use US 113 (Worcester Highway) near Berlin late at night will want to plan ahead for the next few weekends. Two crossovers on the highway are set to close overnight on Friday nights through most of November.
A crossover is the break in the grass median that lets you drive across a divided highway, turn onto a side road, or turn around to head the other way. When a crossover is closed, you can't cross from one side of US 113 to the other at that spot.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) announced the closures on November 2, 2026. The work will let the Town of Berlin take care of the electrical transformers at these intersections.
The first closure starts Friday night, November 6, 2026. Two crossovers will be shut down at the same time. One is at MD 376 (Bay Street/Assateague Road), and the other is at Germantown Road/S. Main Street.
Crews will be out from 11 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. The closures will happen three Friday nights in a row, which puts them on November 6, 2026, November 13, 2026, and November 20, 2026.
SHA expects all of the work to be done by 6 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2026.
The traffic signals at both intersections will be turned off while crews are working. Barrels will block off the crossovers during that time.
SHA will also put up signs on both the northbound and southbound sides of US 113. The signs will let drivers know the closures are coming up at MD 376 (Bay Street/Assateague Road) and Germantown Road/S. Main Street.
If you're only driving straight through on US 113, you shouldn't notice much of a change. SHA says northbound and southbound traffic on the highway won't be affected by the utility work.
Do you usually cross US 113 at one of these spots late on a Friday? If so, you'll need to use a different crossover or another route on those three nights until the work wraps up.
