Wicomico County Lands State Funding for Road Repairs

Wicomico County, MD - Wicomico County is getting help to fix up two roads. State Aid funding will pay for resurfacing work on Gordy Mill Road and Spring Hill Lane.

Gordy Mill Road secured $344,276.32 in State Aid funding. Spring Hill Lane secured $448,080.56, bringing the combined total to $792,356.88.

The money will go toward roadway repairs and helping the roads last longer. Both projects are part of the county's ongoing effort to maintain its roads.

On Gordy Mill Road, crews will repair spider cracking and potholes. They will then mill and overlay the road from Stage Road to Rum Ridge Road.

Spring Hill Lane will also get spider cracking repairs along with resurfacing. That work will stretch from Memory Garden Lane to the Delaware state line.

The Spring Hill Lane project sits in the northern part of the county. County officials say the work will help keep travel safe and reliable for residents and drivers in that area.

Both projects will stay within the existing right-of-way. Project documents show the work will not affect any streams, wetlands, or trees.

"These projects are an excellent example of the importance of strategic planning, responsible funding, and strong partnerships with our state agencies," said County Executive Julie Giordano. "Securing State Aid funding in lieu of Federal Aid allows Wicomico County to continue advancing needed roadway improvements while making the most effective use of available transportation resources. Our goal is to remain proactive in maintaining our infrastructure and investing in the roads that connect our communities."

The Wicomico County Department of Public Works continues to focus on roadway preservation. The department works to plan ahead and pursue funding before road conditions get worse.
