Young Woman Dies in Early Morning Crash on Coastal Highway in Lewes
Sussex County, DE - A 23-year-old woman from Millsboro, Delaware lost her life in a single-vehicle crash on Coastal Highway in Lewes, DE early Wednesday morning, according to the Delaware State Police.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on May 6, 2026, on Coastal Highway south of Nassau Road. A Kia Forte was heading northbound when it approached a slight curve in the road.
For reasons that are still being investigated, the vehicle drifted off the east edge of the roadway and struck a traffic signal support pole.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released while authorities work to notify her family.
The crash closed the roadway for roughly three hours while troopers investigated and cleared the scene.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to look into what led up to the crash. No additional details about the cause have been released at this time.
