CAMBRIDGE, MD - The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on the evening of Thursday, September 4, 2025.

At approximately 5:12 p.m., officers from the Cambridge Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a man with a knife chasing a woman near Seaway Lane and Riverside Wharf. When officers arrived, they found an adult man armed with a knife.

According to a preliminary investigation, officers gave the man verbal commands to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. Two officers then deployed their tasers, which were ineffective.

The man, still holding the knife, charged toward one of the officers. As the officer retreated, he discharged his service weapon, striking the man.

Officers administered medical aid until emergency medical services arrived and transported the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. One officer was also taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The officers involved were equipped with body-worn cameras that recorded the incident. The IID generally releases footage within 20 business days, though this period can be extended if necessary to complete witness interviews, shield civilian identities, or allow family members to view the video before its public release.

The names of the decedent and the involved officer are expected to be released within two business days.

The investigation is ongoing. The IID is asking anyone with information to contact them at (401) 576-7070 or by email at IID@oag.state.md.us.
