Delaware Escapee Caught in Atlantic City

State of DE - The Delaware Department of Correction says an offender who walked away from a treatment center last April has been captured in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Thomas Butler failed to return from an approved programming pass at the Community Corrections Treatment Center on April 22, 2026.

Butler is currently facing a charge of tampering with a witness, and will now be charged with escape charges once he is returned to Delaware.

On Thursday, July 23, Butler was apprehended in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Atlantic City Police took him into custody.

Details on his extradition back to Delaware are still pending. The Delaware Department of Correction has not released any additional information at this time.
