Cambridge Man Charged in Burglary, Officer Hurt

Cambridge, MD - On September 14, 2026, at approximately 1:31 p.m., Cambridge Police Department (CPD) officers responded to the 700 block of Meadow Ave in Cambridge, Maryland for a report of a burglary in progress.

The call came in from City of Cambridge Code Enforcement.
Officers checked the residence when they arrived. Nobody was found inside at that time.

Officers were already familiar with suspect, who was later identified as Tyrone Anthony Cropper, 41, of Cambridge, MD. He had been charged with burglarizing the same residence twice in the past two weeks. (Incident #1 & Incident #2)

While officers were at the scene, they saw Cropper walking a dog on Academy St. He was heading toward the rear of the residence.

Officers watched Cropper open the rear door and go inside. They approached him and ordered him to exit the home.

Cropper refused to come out. When officers tried to enter, he slammed the door on them.

The door had a glass pane. The slamming caused one officer's hand to go through the glass, injuring the officer.

Officers then used a department issued taser to try to subdue Cropper. He resisted arrest but was quickly taken into custody.

Dorchester County EMS was called to the scene. The injured officer was taken to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge for treatment of a severe laceration.

Cropper was also taken to the same hospital for treatment after being tased. He was later transported to CPD for processing.

Cropper was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections. He is now being held on no bond.

He faces charges of burglary in the third degree, assault in the second degree on a law enforcement officer, assault in the first degree, burglary in the fourth degree of a dwelling, malicious destruction of property, resisting arrest, and reckless endangerment.
